In North Carolina, the public is entitled to basic summary data about an arrest per G.S. 132-1.4, a section of the state's Public Records Law. This means anyone can approach a local arresting department, such as the Moore County Sheriff's Office, to request the inspection or duplication of an arrest record, provided the record is not legally exempt. For example, detailed narrative arrest reports and witness statements tied to active investigations are exempt from disclosure.

Further, the public can inspect public arrest data contained in centralized regional booking logs or records preserved by the Moore County Sheriff's Office.
